Go-To Skincare Goconuts Event

 

Last night I attended the Go-To Skincare Goconuts event. Not knowing what to expect my pal Jess and I rocked up to the very glamorous Langham Hotel feeling slightly out of place (as we are use to being poor uni students) but very excited to see what was a head of us for the evening. If you haven’t heard of Go-To Skincare then let me be that friend that you use to have in high school who knew all the latest goss. It’s a brand created by Zoe Foster Blake who was beauty editor for Cosmo Magazine, has written multiple fiction books and even has a beauty book on the market. She has tried and tested a lifetimes worth of products and has created her range to simplify skincare whilst still getting great results. So now that you’re in the loop lets get on to the good stuff! 

When the doors to the Alto room opened we were greet with drinks and the most spectacular view of the CBD you could imagine. As the room began to fill up with other guests, mostly of beautiful girls dressed to the nines, you couldn’t help your eyes from darting around the room and thinking ‘I love those shoes‘ ‘What lipstick is she wearing?‘ ‘How did she get her hair like that?‘.

However when Zoe and her facialist, Brooke took the stage all eyes were on them. Zoe began by introducing the skincare line and then the Q&A was off. Both Brooke and Zoe were so well spoken, relaxed and really funny. It was really enjoyable to watch them speak and better yet it was informative, I almost wish I had taken a pen and paper to take notes. The night ended with peanut butter cupcakes and a photo with Zoe.

On my way out I purchased the Exfoliating Swipies and my goodie bag had the Go-To Lip Balm in it so you can be sure that I will posting a review when I have had a good go at playing with them. Overall it was a really fun night that honestly made me fall in love again with skincare.   

August Haul

As I mentioned in the video I rarely spend so much money in such a short amount of time especially since I’ve been on a very tight budget as I plan on traveling through Europe in October. It felt really nice to spoil myself as I haven’t bought anything other than the basics in roughly six months. I hope you enjoy this video and that all the goodies I treated myself to inspire you to indulge too, after all, you deserve it 😉

Going Out Make Up

As much as I love writing, there really isn’t a better feeling when your fingers tap away at you keyboard, I decided to give this whole video tutorial a try. I’m not going to lie, I quite enjoyed it. I have taken a semester off of university so I hope to get back into the swing of things online.

Back on Track

Well look at who came crawling back! You may have noticed my absences in the pass few months but I’m here to tell you I’m back on track and will be posting more regularly, hopefully two to three times a week.

The past few months I had been feeling rather down and honestly uninspired, every time an idea would come to mind I would shut it down because it wasn’t good enough. I know now that you have to create okay stuff in order to create good stuff and that you have to great good stuff in order to create great stuff.

You may also have noticed my new blog banner and the photo above, I made it myself and it’s the first time I’ve used photo editing software. It’s not perfect but it’s just me attempting to make something okay in hopes that it might one day be great.

The University Bag

 

So I have made it through the first six weeks of the university semester to the mid-semester break and I thought this would be as good a time as any to post a whats in my university bag post.

To begin with the most important part of a ‘whats in my bag’ post is the bag itself. I splurged on the Herschel Pop Quiz Backpack, I specifically wanted this version of the Herschel backpack because it has an built in laptop sleeve which is probably my favourite feature, along with having a pocket specifically for sunglasses, as they both end up saving you a lot of space. Perviously I have lugged around a leather Fossil tote bag which looked fabulous but was heavy and didn’t fit a lot in it so I’m very satisfied with my decision to go for a tradition backpack.

I try and travel light when I go to university and keep it to the essentials. In the largest section of my back pack there is a laptop sleeve which is where I keep my beloved MacBook Pro. Then in front of the laptop sleeve I keep my notebook from Typo, I like to take only one notebook to university that has four sections. This way I never forget which notebook I have to bring for which class, everything is organised and in the one place.

I also keep a magazine with me, as media junkie I feel like I’m always trying to find time to catch up on my magazine reading so if there is a spear moment between classes I’ll have a flick through. I’m currently reading Frankie which is an Australian mag that comes out every second month. I also keep my American Apparel Beanie in there, even though it is starting to heat up again here in Melbourne the weather can change without a moments notice, also not to mention the my university is pretty much a wind tunnel so it is ace for concealing messy windswept hair.

The final thing I keep in the main compartment is my wallet which is a recent purchase that I am madly in love with. It is made by an Australian brand called Status Anxiety and as soon as I saw it I fell in love, the whole brand in divine. It fits everything I need plus more, it’s not too bulky, it is made out of the nicest leather and is a gorgeous shade of blue that changes colour depending on the light.

In the exterior pockets of my backpack I keep little nicknacks that I wouldn’t bee too concerned if they got stolen. I keep my Sportsgirl sunglasses in the sunglasses pocket at the top of the back pack. Everything else can be found in the front pocket for example mints, whatever lipstick I’m wearing that day, my keys and a couple of pens. Handy hint: ‘forgetting to bring a pen to class’ is a great way to make friends when you borrow one off your peers, hence why I don’t carry a pencil case around.

New Ombre Hair, New Ombre Care

It’s been a number of weeks since my one of my best friends Erin, who is also a hairdresser ombred my hair. On a side note, it’s great having friends in all the right places, mates rates are the bomb!

As I’m getting into the swing of being a blonde, or at least a half blonde there have been some product that have been a life saver when battling the bleached dried ends.

•  Lee Stafford Bleach Blonde Shampoo- This purple shampoo keeps away the brassie blonde tones. I use it roughly once a week, sometimes more and sometimes less. It’s so affordable that I don’t think I could ever justify upgrading to a high end purple shampoo.
• Toni and Guy Dry Shampoo- I have to admit that I was a serial hair washer before I dyed my hair couldn’t go a day without washing it. Now I try and wash it every other day, it can sometimes even go three days without wash! On those days in between I use the Toni and Guy Dry shampoo, it smells lovely, doesn’t leave my roots looking grey and gives me the confidence to run my fingers through my hair.
• Toni and Guy Reconstruction Mask- When I get the chance, roughly around once as week I like to use this mask, I can’t remember how long they recommend you leave it in your hair but I usually leave it on for twenty minuets to half an hour, I figure its not doing me any harm and I get time to chuck on a face mask as the same time for double pampering. When I rinse the Reconstruction Mask out I feel as if someone should put me in a hair advertisement  because my hair looks and feels like silk, it’s amazing!
• Toni and Guy Leave in Conditioner- Before I blow dry my hair I put a small blob of leave in conditioner and run it through my ends, I can’t say is a miracle product but it is nice and just gives my hair a little bit more nourishment.
• Lee Stafford Nourishing Miracle Oil- This hair oil/serum to begin with smells absolutely divine, I wish they made perfume out of this stuff but it gets even better as it makes me hair looks and feel silky and slick without weighing the hair down. The product claims to have argan oil in it that I sure is helping heal my dead ends however I’m not 100% fooled as the first two ingredients listed are silicones. Nevertheless I love the way it feels.
• VO5 Instant Oomph Powder- This is an amazing styling product, it really gives the hair lift and can completely transform your hair but be warned that it will make you hair incredibly knotty and feel as dirty as not washing it for months. I use this product on night out because it really does the job but the way it makes my hair feel means that it wont be making it into my daily routine.

Bellabox – April

April’s Bellabox was packed to the brim with new, groundbreaking beauty products, which seemed appropriate as innovative beauty was this months theme. I was so impressed this month by the selection of products and I didn’t feel like there was a single ‘dud’ product in the box, I was excited to try each of them, it was almost overwhelming!

The products I received in my Bellabox were:

•  Cellilux Glacial Mineral Gel- This facial mask I’ve been saving this one for a special occasion and I feel like tonight might be the night. I’ll have to wait and see if it’s really been worth all the hype.
• Lash Card- Again another very exciting product. I remember sometime ago reading about US bloggers using this so it’s nice to finally get my hands on it.
•  Indio Skin Tonic- I may have fallen in love with this toner, as it takes hydration to the next level makes it’s lovely to sprits before moisterising. It may even potentially replace my Aesop Parsley Seed toner and I honestly never thought I’d see the day!
•  Ayurda Skin Perfecting Moisteriser- Another product that I have really enjoyed using as a part of my daily routine. It’s natural so it instantly got a thumbs up from me but it also isn’t too greasy and was really wonderful for using under my foundation. It has a strong scent that sticks around, I was intoxicated by it but if youre sensitive to smells then maybe this is one to give a miss.
•  Proplenish Marine Collagen Sachets- Another natural product all natural product which was impressive along with the fact that I’ve never heard of a similar product before where you dissolve one sachet into water and drink in order to gain beautiful hair, skin and nails.
•  Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Colour- I thought this nail polish was amazing. The idea is that you apply the nail polish and then hold the magnet that comes with it above the nail it makes waves and swirls in the nail polish. Better yet it hardly even chipped! I’d love to try this in other colours also.
•  Cedel Dry Conditioner-  I really loved the concept of this product. I mean who does want perfectly conditioned hair without the effort of re-washing, blow drying and styling it. The scent however was less than pleasant, if they were to change the scent I would be all up on this beauty.

 It’s safe to say there are some gems in this months Bellabox and I’m eagerly anticipating next months now!

I Don’t Think You’re Ready For These Jellys

We’re halfway through Autumn here in Melbourne and every time there’s a sunny, warm day I like to treat it as if it’s the last one we’ll see until spring. It’s a great excuse to pull out my see-through, pink Jellybean sandals. Perhaps you remember shoes like these from your childhood, well they’re back and an awesome way to make summery statement even as the temperature begins to cool down. How could shoes like this not make you smile? I feel like a big (and very trendy) kid when I wear them. Jellys come in a bunch of different colours, they’re Australian owned and are so much fun they make me feel as if I should be skipping down the street instead of walking, what’s not to love?

The Finders Keepers Market – Melbourne

Today I had the absolute pleasure of going to The Finders Keepers Market. As I have mentioned before I love to support local businesses and this is definitely the mother of all independent art and design markets attracting designers from all over Australia.

Camera and Myki in hand, my mum and I caught the train into the city early this morning to arrive at The Royal Melbourne Exhibition Building where the market was held. This beautiful old building is surrounded by the most glorious gardens and on this sunny autumn day it was a real treat to stroll through them before going inside.

After dropping a gold coin donation in a box we wondered around the stalls in utter awe of the creativity and innovation that surrounded us. There was one of a kind jewellery, records turned into notebooks, vintage suitcases turned into speakers and enough quirky hand made items to redecorate your entire house!

This year being the third year that I’ve attended the event I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes something slightly out of the ordinary. If you missed out this time never fear as The Finders Keepers market is a bi-anual event and will return to Melbourne in October so keep an eye on their website for dates.
